So, turns out the screen on my window has a slight bend in it(Wonder who caused that?? Hmmm, just guessing it had something to do with the crew that just flew out of doors to get a closer look at the bat!) Just enough I guess for his guy to fly through and get stuck.Jeremy took off the screen and lowered it down to the ground. Yep it was a bat! But it looks an awful lot like a mouse..with some wings on the side.

Of course, it's not enough to just look at the bat at this point. The bat must now be shaken off of the screen to see if it can fly!
So now the bat opens its wings and falls to the grass...
Look at that thing! Yuck! And just so you know, I was reminding them....don't touch it! It might have rabies! (See dad, I remembered what you said before! :-) ) So they're all hunched over looking at it and taking some pictures. They were thinking that it was probably hurt or maybe even dead....or maybe close to dead....
NOPE! Not dead...not even close. Mr. Bat turned around and gave Jeremy a little greeting. Doesn't look like a friendly, does it??Well, the boys proceeded to pick it up with a stick and transfer it to a "safer" location i.e. one where the chickens or goats (or Jackson) wouldn't find it and possibly try to eat it.

Ohhh! I was opening my umbrella on the back porch a few months ago and this thing FELL out and hit my arm before falling to the chair...and it was a bat. I had to call A&M animal control to remove it... They had to test it for rabies... and then determine whether or not i had to get a rabies SHOT! (no thanks!) They said that bats are noctural and have terrible vision... Thats why it wouldn't fly! It was daylight...and it couldn't see where it was going! :) (I guess thats where they get the "blind as a bat" saying?) :) love you!
Oh, my! What adventures you have had out in the country!! Such as the picture of the spread-out wings of a buzzard! Or the deer caught in the fence. And the 'possum in the garage--or was that just in White Oak?
Love you all!!
...and the tarantula...yikes. That bat was U G L Y.
Amazing! This is why God gave you boys!! Can you imagine the screams from my "oh no it's a segmented worm!!" clan?? I'm glad you got pics, though. Add it to the nature book of weird creatures from your place!
Oh My! That bat did look a lot like a mouse before it opened up it's wings.
But boys are the best for that kind of stuff.
Even though they are boys they are still pretty fun cousins.
Love you!
Can't wait to see you guys in about six weeks.;-)
Your blog is so entertaining!!
I'm perfectly happy I have never seen a bat, so this one looks very large to me. It also looks sorta like Batman...go figure!!!
We found a bat with a hurt wing somewhere in the yard over here. You could actually see the tear in it's wing ='( We hung it up in a bush by our hyouse and admonished ALL neighborhood kids to leave it alone!
